Southeast Louisiana Regional Brownfield Consortium

The RPC established the Southeast Louisiana Regional Brownfield Consortium with our initial Brownfield grant in
1999. The Consortium includes representatives of all parties with an interest in brownfields redevelopment, such
as community members, developers, consultants, government entities, local non-profit groups, and other
Brownfield stakeholders. The Consortium helps guide RPC’s brownfield planning and project development in the
region through such activities as conferences and workshops, regional policy recommendations and inventory
development, and allows a cross-section of stakeholders to collaborate on Brownfield redevelopment projects.

The Consortium also works with local governments to develop policies and regulations to encourage brownfield
activities and remove of barriers to brownfields redevelopment. With RPC support, the Consortium partners work
with EPA to develop innovative approaches to gather and subsequently to share valuable information among all
communities in this region. This research includes input into the USTriage model, a software database to catalog
and rank sites for redevelopment throughout the region. The Consortium will explore the use of a GIS Data
Management System to identify all brownfields in the region, to track their development status, and to link this
information to other related databases in the region.

The Consortium also conducts public forums designed to gather information about needs and expectations
regarding brownfields and to provide information and discussion on local, state, and national Brownfield topics.
The Consortium strives to formulate regional strategies that demonstrate the benefits of diverse groups working
together.
